Supplemental Employment With Competitors

Current Postal Service employees are prohibited from working for companies that deliver mailable matter or for a Commercial Mail Receiving Agency (CMRA) in any capacity.

• This includes competitors such as UPS, Amazon, DHL, or FedEx. The UPS Store is an example of a CMRA.
• There is a limited exception. Some competitors have subsidiary companies that do not deliver mailable matter.
• For instance, Amazon has subsidiary companies such as Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods. An employee may work for a subsidiary company as long as it doesn’t deliver mailable matter and the employee receives approval from the Ethics Office.

By ensuring that you avoid a conflict, you contribute to the success and future of the Postal Service.

It’s not always good to share

The Postal Service places a high priority on personal privacy and cybersecurity.

Public access to postal mobile telephone numbers and postal email addresses may lead to phishing schemes and phone calls from the public after hours.

When responding to a Freedom of Information Act request, postal mobile telephone numbers and postal email addresses may both be redacted by citing Exemption 3 with 39 U.S.C. § 410(c)(2) and Exemption 6.

Safeguarding USPS email addresses and mobile telephone numbers protects both our network and our employees’ privacy.
