The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) contributes to an informed citizenry by providing the public with a way to access official information that sheds light on government activity. Communicating with the individual who requests information is essential to make sure the Postal Service fully complies with its legal obligations.
If you’re assigned a FOIA request to respond to, and you’re unsure of what the person is asking for, contact him or her and clarify the request. Also, if you can’t process the request within the applicable time period, contact the person by phone about the delay and followup with an email confirming the discussion.

Maintaining good communication and keeping individuals who make FOIA requests informed about their requests promotes good relationships between the Postal Service and customers, and reduces the likelihood that the customer will seek compliance through an administrative appeal or litigation.

And that’s smart business.

The Corporate Information Security Office (CISO) is responsible for protecting the Postal Service brand and reputation by ensuring that information resources operate in a secure and trusted environment. The office also promotes information security awareness.
CISO recently launched the CyberSafe at USPS initiative to inform employees about the importance of protecting information while using the Internet.

Learning more about the CISO’s efforts to protect USPS information resources reflects an organization-wide commitment to information security.

Don’t take a gamble.

Failing to comply with lockout/tagout (LOTO) and machine guarding procedures are consistently on OSHA’s top 10 violations list. OSHA penalties average thousands of dollars. Comprehensive LOTO and machine-guarding programs protect employees from energized equipment hazards and avoid costly OSHA violations.

Taking a proactive approach allows USPS to keep employees safe and minimize citations during inspections.

It’s the pedestrians’ domain.

Always yield to people in a crosswalk. When approaching, reduce your speed and be prepared to stop. When stopped, allow enough room between your vehicle and the crosswalk so other drivers can see the pedestrians too. Don’t pass vehicles stopped at a crosswalk — they’re waiting for people to cross and making sure the way is clear.

Look out for pedestrians at all times. As a driver, it’s your responsibility. Pedestrians — especially children — aren’t always where they should be or where you’d expect them to be. Be vigilant to prevent financial liability to the USPS as a result of a pedestrian injury or death.
