Bloodborne disease exposure

The Postal Service has procedures to assist safety and health personnel in identifying the small number of employees, such as medical staff, who routinely perform tasks that could involve exposure to blood or infectious materials. First aid treatment is an example. Management Instruction EL-810-2017-4 provides policy guidance on compliance with OSHA requirements.

It’s USPS policy to protect the safety and health of all its employees and to comply with OSHA regulations.

Lead hazards

All Postal Service employees working with lead-based paint or lead-containing material must receive training in lead hazards and approved work practices. All work performed by contractors must be done in accordance with approved statements of work. Contractors must be monitored periodically to ensure their activities don’t create lead-based paint hazards and that they comply with OSHA regulations.

USPS informs employees, contractors and other building occupants of the presence of lead-based paint if they’re going to perform tasks that may create lead dust or fumes, and maintains lead-containing paint in good condition to keep it from becoming a hazard.
