A Postal Service employee is prohibited from using his postal title or any authority associated with his public office in a manner that could reasonably be construed to imply the Postal Service sanctions or endorses his personal activities.
For example, a Postal Service employee may not appear in uniform or affix the Postal Service’s logo to a sign while participating in a rally or protest.
Using your postal title or authority in connection with personal activities undermines the Postal Service’s brand and may alienate customers.

Keeping your personal activities personal is smart business.

What’s in your trash?

If it’s a wadded up piece of paper with sensitive or sensitive-enhanced information, you’re doing something wrong. Properly dispose of this information when no longer needed. Cross-shred documents or lock them in a file cabinet or desk drawer.
Follow USPS data and legal retention requirements. The information is available in Handbook AS-805-Information Security.

Who knows what the other driver will do?

Motor vehicle accidents are a major source of serious personal injury and financial liability for USPS employees. Drive defensively. This goes beyond knowing the rules of the road and the basics of driving. The risk of collision is reduced by anticipating dangerous situations, hazardous conditions and the actions of others by practicing driving techniques like the two-second rule — keeping a safe distance behind the vehicle in front.

Driving defensively can save lives and reduce injuries and associated costs.

And that’s smart safety!

Are you talking to me?

Heed your inner voice. If you’re doing a task and something doesn’t seem right, it’s OK to stop and figure it out. Don’t dismiss your red flags and keep going. You don’t have to be an expert on safety regulations to identify a problem. If it doesn’t look right or doesn’t feel right, then it isn’t right.

Too often after an injury someone will say, “I knew that was going to happen one day.” Let’s take action now before someone gets hurt.
