Just because an employee tells you about a health issue doesn’t mean the employee wants everyone to know about it – and we have an obligation to keep private health information private.
Do not discuss employees’ health issues with anyone who doesn’t need to know.

Protecting the privacy of employees’ health information is the law.

Respecting employees’ privacy also contributes to a positive work environment.

And that’s smart business.

Don’t Position Yourself to Benefit Yourself

As a Postal Service employee, you can’t use your position for your private gain.
Or the private gain of your relatives.
Or anyone you are affiliated with outside the government.

When you keep it ethical, you maintain the integrity of the Postal Service.

And that’s smart business.

More than half of the OIG’s misconduct investigations involve a misuse- of-position issue. Contact the Ethics Office (ethics.help@usps.gov) for more guidance.

Near-miss incidents

That was a close call.

A near-miss accident is an incident that didn’t result in damage, injury or illness but under different circumstances could have. Facilities are required to document close calls by completing an electronic accident report in SHMT (Safety Health Management Tool).

By documenting near misses and conducting inspections into the root causes, USPS can help prevent future accidents, injuries or even a fatality.

And that’s smart safety!

They’re more than just numbers.

Do you know your blood pressure? Cholesterol numbers? What about your body mass index (BMI)? A healthy blood pressure is considered 120 over 80 or less. Cholesterol should be less than 200. And BMI should be between 18.5 and 24.9.

Knowing what’s happening inside your body is important to managing your overall health.
