Your Views are Yours

It’s okay to mention that you are a USPS employee on social media and professional networking websites like LinkedIn.

However, when posting and sharing content, consider how your posts will be interpreted.  Ask yourself, “Could this create an appearance that the Postal Service supports this content?”

If your postal position is in your profile, consider including a disclaimer such as “this view is my own and not that of USPS” when posting or sharing about a non-postal product, service or enterprise.

Preventing an improper endorsement or the appearance that the Postal Service sanctions your personal views is just smart business.

You are Not Alone

The ethics statutes and regulations are complicated, but you do not have to navigate them alone.  The Ethics and Legal Compliance team has created several resources to help you.

There is an internal ethics website on the blue page, a public ethics website on usps.com, and an ethics app for smartphones available in the USPS App Store.  The USPS Ethics App has frequently asked questions, a self-help feature, explanations, and examples.

Need ethics training?  The DirectLine publication advertises live ethics training sessions in the spring, summer, and fall.  Ethics training is available at any time in the online training portal.  We are also happy to deliver training to your team upon request.
