When the going gets hot, don’t let the heat stress your body.
Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing that reflects some of the sun’s energy. It’s also a good idea to wear hats or use an umbrella. Drink water or unsweetened juice continuously even if you don’t feel thirsty. Avoid alcohol and caffeine, which dehydrate the body. Eat several small meals and avoid foods high in protein, which increase metabolic heat. Take breaks in a cool place.
If you or someone else shows signs of a heat-related illness, stop activity and find a cool place.

Use the handrail when going up or down the stairs. It’s the most important thing you can do. It gives you two points of contact and good balance. Never run. Never finger the mail while you’re stepping. Focus on the stairs, not conversations or other distractions. Always look straight ahead.
Take it one step at a time. Get help if you have to carry something heavy. Make sure you always have at least one hand free. And if the steps are outside, be extremely careful in rain or snow.
Following these tips will help keep you from a fall that could result in injury and lost work days.
