Think about the company you keep

Current Postal Service employees are prohibited from working for companies that deliver mailable matter.

This includes competitors such as UPS, Amazon, DHL, or FedEx.

There is a limited exception. Some competitors have subsidiary companies that do not deliver mailable matter.

For instance, Amazon has subsidiary companies such as Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods. Employees may work for a subsidiary company so long as it doesn’t deliver mailable matter and doesn’t otherwise conflict with the ethics rules.

By ensuring that you avoid a conflict, you contribute to the success and future of the Postal Service.

And that’s smart business.

What’s in your trash?

If it’s a wadded up piece of paper with sensitive or sensitive-enhanced information, you’re doing something wrong. Properly dispose of this information when no longer needed. Cross-shred documents or lock them in a file cabinet or desk drawer.
Follow USPS data and legal retention requirements. If you don’t know what they are, find out.

The Postal Service takes pride in maintaining public trust and protecting employee and business customer information.

And that’s smart business.

Don’t be a hard head — wear a helmet.

Postal Service employees who use a bicycle or tricycle in the performance of outdoor duties must wear a helmet. Helmets should fit snugly without any movement from side to side, have a chin strap and comply with Consumer Product Safety Commission regulations.

Wearing a bike helmet helps prevent head injuries in accidents. For more information refer to Management Instruction EL-823-2016-5, Bicycle Helmets.

Don’t get caught up.

Enforce these basic safety rules around automated equipment:

Never allow untrained employees to work on or with automated or other powered equipment.
Employees must observe and follow all warning signs and notices that have been installed on equipment for their protection.
Employees must comply with all safety and health regulations, procedures and practices.
Warn employees not to wear loose clothing, long or unconfined hair, or dangling jewelry around equipment.
Never allow employees to override or disable safety interlocks or switches.
Make sure employees check for defects in equipment before using.

Supervisors are responsible for documenting and maintaining employee training records.
