What’s in Your Lobby?

Leaflets and flyers can’t be placed as “take one” displays in Post Offices. The Postal Service has policies and rules in place that prohibit communications of confidential, proprietary and non-public information — and information that could be construed as violating anti-lobbying rules.

These policies are designed to protect not only the Postal Service, but employees as well.

And that’s smart business.

Don’t.
Nearly half of drivers under the age of 35 with cell phones report sending or reading text messages at the wheel. Drivers are three times more likely to crash if
they text while they drive.
There are enough distractions on the road without adding texting to the list.
Texting while driving is an accident waiting to happen. Forty-six states have laws banning text messaging while driving

Keeping our eyes on the road and free from unnecessary distractions is smart driving and it will reduce accidents and injuries.

And that’s smart business.

Hazard checks

Some accidents happen for a reason.

While an employee may not be at fault, it could very well be a failure of a procedure or an uninspected piece of equipment. Creating an environment where everyone is invested in safety is the best way to prevent workplace hazards.

By making equipment and vehicle checks a part of the daily routine and conducting regular inspections of the work area for often-overlooked hazards, you can help reduce potential accidents and injuries to employees.

And that’s smart safety!

Protective eyewear

The eyes have it.

Protect your vision at work — always wear appropriate protective eyewear. If you get something in your eye, avoid rubbing it. Lift the upper eyelid and blink repeatedly to allow tears to flush out the particle. If that doesn’t work, get medical attention. If you get hit in the eye, apply a cold compress to reduce pain and swelling — but be careful not to apply pressure. Visit an eye doctor or emergency department if there’s pain or your sight is affected.

Following safety procedures and knowing emergency eye care can prevent injuries that damage the eye or cause loss of vision.
