As an employee of the Postal Service, you have a legal, ethical, and fiduciary obligation to obey the tax laws of our country.
As a citizen and a public servant obligated to uphold the public trust, you’re ethically mandated to complete and file all required tax forms for federal, state and, where applicable, local taxes.
Taxes must be filed timely and accurately. It erodes public confidence when postal employees are viewed as not paying their taxes.

Who’s the Landlord?

It matters if the owner of a postal facility is a postal employee. It also matters if it’s a spouse, relative or individual living with a postal employee.
In these cases, the lease must be approved by the Ethics Office. A postal employee can’t have any authority or control over the matter.

When you obtain ethics clearance before entering into a postal lease with an employee or a relative of a postal employee, you maintain the integrity and reputation of the Postal Service as being fair, transparent, and honest.

And that’s smart business.

Do it for the sanctity and the safety.

Supervisors must conduct annual safety inspections on all parcel lockers, neighborhood delivery and collection box units, collection boxes and relay boxes. Check for corrosion, absence of bolts in any mounts, cracks or other deficiencies. Remove any defective unit from service and have it repaired immediately. Keep a log detailing dates and results of inspections.

By conducting these safety inspections, supervisors ensure employee safety and security of our customers’ mail.

And that’s smart safety!

Shut off the engine before fueling a vehicle. While you’re filling the tank don’t smoke or use a cell phone. Smoking is not permitted within 25 feet of gasoline pumps or gasoline storage tanks. “No smoking” signs should be posted in plain view of all employees working near gasoline.

Following these procedures will prevent employee injury or death, and keep postal vehicles from being damaged by fire.

And that’s smart safety.
