Fire prevention

Sometimes it’s just that obvious.

Fire prevention can be defined as the correction of unsafe practices or unsafe conditions that could result in a fire.

To prevent fires, become familiar with unsafe practices and conditions that cause fires (i.e. smoking near flammable materials and plugging portable heaters into surge protectors) and their corrective actions (i.e. plugging portable heaters into wall outlets).

Handbook MS-56, Fire Prevention and Control; Handbook EL-814, Employee Guide to Safety and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Life Safety Code, 101 are excellent resources for keeping facilities and homes safe.

Access these resources on the Safety Resources link under Essential Links on the Blue Intranet www.blue.usps.gov.

That’s smart safety.
