The Org Chart Should Not Look Like Your Family Tree

A Postal Service employee is prohibited from appointing, employing, promoting, or advancing a relative; or advocating the appointment, employment,
promotion, advancement of a relative; or using his or her official position for the private gain of a relative.
This means that a Postal Service employee should never be involved in a hiring decision, promotion decision, detail assignment decision, any decision
resulting in the advancement of a relative, a transfer decision, change of domicile request, pay for performance review, or any decision that would result
in a financial gain to a relative.

When you refrain from taking any action to advance or financially benefit your relative, you maintain a work environment free from favoritism allegations and
resentment. And you also enhance our reputation for trustworthiness and integrity.

That’s smart business.

Staff, budgets and resources might be limited.

Assess, track and communicate restricted resources in short- and long-term increments.
Communicate and partner with other program stakeholders — groups in other divisions might share past or current resources — to eliminate process replication.

Stakeholders sharing a common business goal can often trade off and share work, pooling their efforts.

And that’s smart business!

Office hazards

So you think you have a safe office job.

You spend most of your day sitting in a chair. What could go wrong? The National Safety Council says employees are two-and-a-half times more likely to suffer a disabling fall in an office setting than anywhere else. How to avoid them?

Safely store boxes, files and other items away from walkways.
Reduce clutter.
Don’t stretch cords across walkways or under rugs.
Use a stepladder to reach items stored on high shelves. Never stand on office chairs.
Use care when making turns in hallways and around blind corners to prevent collisions.
Carpeting and other skid-resistant surfaces can reduce falls, especially at entrances where employees might have shoes wet from rain or snow.

By raising awareness among employees, office injuries caused by falls can be prevented.

Don’t leave home without them.

We’re talking about common-sense precautions when you travel.

Here are some tips to keep you, your belongings and your money safe during travel.

Don’t look like a tourist. Learn your route ahead of time. Step into a business for directions instead of asking a stranger on the street.
If you’re traveling alone, don’t advertise that fact. Stick with groups whenever possible and keep information-sharing with chatty cab drivers and strangers to a minimum.
Always have a lock for your luggage and use room safes to secure items.
Don’t advertise where you keep your money. Keep purses close to your body or under your clothing or jacket. Make sure your wallet is secure in your pocket and have a copy of your credit card numbers and the telephone numbers you need to cancel them.
Don’t wear flashy jewelry or expensive clothing.
Never open your hotel door without looking to see who’s knocking.
Place a copy of your passport and travel documents in your carry-on luggage, in case you lose the original documents.
Make sure family or friends know your itinerary.

Pay attention. Don’t allow yourself to be too preoccupied by that meeting you’re attending or tourist site you’re visiting to be safe.

And that’s smart safety.
