USPS drug policy

Understand the consequences.

The Postal Service will not tolerate the sale, possession or use of illegal drugs, or abuse of legal drugs, while employees are on duty or on USPS premises. Engaging in such activity could result in firing or criminal prosecution, or both. The future of the Postal Service depends on the quality and character of our employees. It’s critically important to eliminate drug abuse from our workplace.

Did you know:

  • Employees who frequently use drugs or alcohol tend to miss work or run late more often than non-users.
  • One in six workplace deaths and one in four workplace injuries involve drugs or alcohol use.
  • Substance abusers are five times more likely to file workers’ compensation claims.

By promoting a drug-free workplace, USPS keeps employees healthier and more productive.

And that’s smart safety!
